Learn More. Pros: Has every kind of port you'd want, and allows you to push a button to reset your bios, as opposed to pulling a pin from the board. Cons: When I originally received this I was getting "FF" on the debug led, which meant that my CPU wasn't being powered, even though everything was given juice. As it turned out, I was given a faulty board, and the RMA took forever to process.
I wasn't very happy. This was done over the holidays, but my original purchase was Dec. Overall Review: Can't seem to figure out which button brings up boot screen. Not as easy, so a ticket with XFX has been entered. Overall Review: Bought it intending to be able to overclock for gaming was advertised as a "gamers" motherboard", but doesn't seem to serve that function well even if at all.
BIOS is very poorly done, many simple spelling errors, badly needs an update to be worth buying again. Customer support was fast, but not really helpful, pretty much just said "too bad".
Pros: Board so far has proven to be reliable. Actually supports pretty generic overclocking options that make it easy for the less advanced user to overclock without turning the inside of the pc into an oven. Cons: Really weird board layout. If your using 2 cd drives in a mid tower case its almost impossible for a regular IDE cable to reach the slots. Not sure why they decided to position the slots at the bottom of the board.
If your using duel video cards, they completely cover up the SATA ports, so any additions with HDD's will require you to remove the cards first.
Which can be a hassle once you've already gotten everything up and running to all of a sudden find out your processor is only running at an average of 1. Always fixable by disabling of course. Overall, very happy with the board.
I'm stuck now. And lastly, yeah: xFx sucks. I mean, you cant even find bios updates anywhere. And yes, only when u register is when ur entitled to support files, docs and drivers. Come on xFx. Do u really think someone would flash their p35 chipset with ur i bios image?
Hey Bear, there is one thing i would highlight. The board has a cooling pipe complex on top of the main chip, northbridge, southbridge and something else. One of the holding pins came off there are like 8 in all, two on each heatsink fins-set. I don't believe the chipset could've burned itself, cuz i never went beyond the bios. And what could this problem no. Actually, i'm very hasty when it comes to my cuddly computer.
What I could otherwise do is, hand it back over to my vendor and he can take his time to solve the problem, change components in warranty, or replace them with better ones on extra payment, of course.
What's your take? With the issues youve had, if your still under any kind of return warranty, I would return for a diff Name. IF not under a return warranty, I would use the other warranty now before getting stuck with the board much longer. Okay then You're a helping hand. I guess the best thing for me is to hand it over to the vendor. He can fix it all week if he likes. Will chill till then. Id just ask for a replacement. Due to the missing piece, how many more are gonna pop off?
And the Error 11 - contact the Manufacturer requesting this. Watch the display prior, or record it, so you can see the series it follows to reach that error. That way you can put that in email.
This is also confirmed by XFX Support without any further comment According to specs: "This motherboard delivers performance straight out of the box, for the ultimate gaming experience.
The i comes with exceptional gaming support in an SLI-ready platform. I have to start and stop the MyBook 2 times and then pull the powercord and re-insert it Cheers, I run a box using a XFX i Ultra and have built 10 i's for friends, some are XFX, some Asus as those two i have been very happy with support and the products. I ghave built 3 of the specific motherboards you mention, and I strongly doubt the tech told you the extreme had a chipset in it. If he did then XFX is really opening themselves up to huge liability problems.
I like to read all sorts of information and test, but I do not in any way take everything these kids, and that is what most of the testers are, say as the gospel at CPU-Z or anywhere else. It does not make them completely usefuless, but they are not the end all of information either.
I will bet you a bunch the chipset in the XFX board is indeed the i chipset That is just silly. As for the other issues I have found that if your will be clear with XFX and tell them what problem you are having, they will help you resolve it, if they can.
I have seen issues that are just conflicts between components and not worth the time to try and hash out the rub, but that is rare. Nvidia does a great job of making their chipsets and graphic cards chipsets also very compliant, and I have honestly had one fail, just one, and that was a i eVGA board, and they had some issues with the i early on.
They had me a new board in less than a week and it worked fine I guess my reason for respondiong to this is I see this far ro often. Some yoyo on a test mag says product XYZ is not really a ABC and everyone goes to busting on the board manufactures, or whatever component it is. I am not in the computer industry, but I have been building PC's for myself since the early 80's, as an Engineer I was fascinated by the concept and the workings I have spent way to much over the years building the fastest thing in town just to find out the next fastest just came out If the computer is not as stated on the box, I am sure XFX will give you a new one and probably more, as I do not think they are in the business of fraud, and that iswhat it would be, intentional or not I was just reading about then on a review a few hours ago.
One of the chips was changed otherwise the rest are chips. It said the is what the should have been or something like that. Same price. And thank God, I am very stable now. Plus, the board has a third PCIe slot. Well, we haven't seen any results in 3-way SLI on this board yet, and maybe its just an add on and is not practical. But still, that's better than the lame xFx i that I had.
As far as I'm concerned, xFx is good for graphics and in other products, they just pay attention to their flagships and high-end components.
Coming down to mainstreams like the i, they don't really bother much. Fine with me. MSI runs. The board has 3 PCI-E x16 ver 2. Now, what's more absurd is that only the first x16 slot operates at full x16 bandwidth while the other two operate at x8. Now why the hell would you call them x16 when they're just operating at x8. This is as dumb as those car companies who provide speedometers in their cars with limits to mph where actual speeds wouldn't possibly go over mph. Why would some loser call it a PCIe x16 ver 2.
Then it aint a x16!! But no, its a God darn x16 2. One big crap this Marketing thing is. Well, thanks for the third slot, but no thanks. Actually I believe you can 3-way SLI with them anyway.
